The Personification

Installation ,,Personification’’ at the exhibition ,,Empathy-Apathy’’ (2017)

Empathy, empathy, empathy - this word while being repeated many times loses its meaning. It disappears and recedes from us every time when we repeat it from the beginning. Is it true that without the empathy there is only apathy left?

On one hand, empathy is one of the main mediums in art - without it an artwork wouldn’t be understood or even created, because empathy, like imagination, is needed for the artwork to emerge and be felt by the viewer. However, it often seems as if the line between the empathy and apathy is very narrow, because through the interpretation and various distortions we end up at the point, where we are left with only misunderstanding.
Empathy -> apathy - that’s what also happens at this exhibition.
The artworks are trying to connect with the viewer, feel him and be felt by him - the exhibition is the search for the empathy and human relations through its objects.
For the exhibition ,,Empathy-Apathy’’ we created an installation with the focal point being a cactus. We chose the cactus because it can be ambiguous - although the cactus looks reserved and can reject human touch, it can also absorb negative information from the environment. Therefore we suggest the viewer to let the cactus take your anxiety and absorb the pain.
